Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

"Health is a state of complete physical and mental well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Modern nursing education is a dynamic, full fledged course which equips a nurse to help society remain in this state of health. The Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery conducted by COLACO SCHOOL OF NURSING aims at:
  General Nursing and Midwifery
  • Preparing student nurses with a sound educational programme in nursing.
  • Helping student nurses develop an ability to co-operate and co-ordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of health and rehabilitation of the sick.
  • Helping student nurses in their personal and professional development, so that they are able to make maximum contribution to society, as useful and productive individuals as well as efficient nurses.
  • Providing a base for further professional education and specialization in nursing.
  • Preparing student nurses to keep pace with latest professional and technological developments and use them for providing nursing care services.

Duration: 3½ years
Age Limit: 17-35 Years. For ANM / LHV there is no age bar.

Eligibility :

  • Both Indian and foreign students, male and female are eligible for admission.
  • A pass in PUC / PDC / Intermediate / +2 or any other equivalent examination, in any discipline.

Admission Procedure :

Applications can be collected from the trust / school office. The duly filled applications may be submitted with the following documents:

  • SSLC/ + II PUC marks card.
  • Transfer Certificate.
  • Migration Certificate (for Non-Karnataka students).
  • Six passport size photo-graphs of the candidate.

Fees:
The candidates have to pay the tuition fees as fixed by the management and can be paid in easy monthly installments.

Examination :

A candidate shall be eligible to answer the Board Examination if the principal of the school certifies that:

  • He/she has completed eleven months of the course.
  • He/she has attended 75% of the formal instructions given on each subject and 75% of the clinical field experience in each area separately during the academic year.
  • The overall performance of the student is satisfactory.
  • The student has secured 50% marks in the internal assessment in each subject in theory and practicals separately.
The record of practical experience is complete.

Practical Examination will be conducted by the school at its own level at the end of the six month period, to assess clinical skills, ward management and professional trends. Marks will be submitted to the council for addition to the overall result.  Diploma by the Council / Board will be issued only after successful completion of the Internship Period.
